Cherry Marnier

cherry marnierThis is another quality liqueur from the house of Grand Marnier. Instead of their flagship product made from the distilled essence of wild oranges and fine cognac, or the vanilla infused cognac called Navan, Cherry Marnier is made from cherries and quality eau-de-vie. This cherry aroma and taste is amazing. Unlike cheap cherry brandy, Cherry marnier is made without any artificial colouring or flavours. You can sip Cherry Marnier straight, or use it in a good cocktail, like a Singapore Sling.

The quality of Cherry Marnier comes from how it is created. First, they use the best cherries they can find and then they crush and mixed with eau-de-vie and left to macerate for a period of time. The eau-de-vie that they use is not stated, but it is probably from grapes, since they are located in the Cognac region of France and most of their products are flavoured brandies.

After this maceration period, a portion of the product is distilled to create a cherry eau-de-vie. This is then mixed with some of the macerated cherries for colour and flavour and then sugar (simple syrup) is added to make the product a liqueur. This mixture is then allowed to mellow in vats to ensure a consistent product.

My first impression of Cherry Marnier was the noticeable lack of bite or sourness often associated with cherries. The bite from fresh cherries comes from malic and citric acid. Cherry Marnier is a pure, smooth cherry flavour. The only downside to this liqueur is that drinking it straight and warm, you might be reminded of cherry flavoured children's cough syrup. Adding an ice cube fixes this up. Maybe it's just me, but the combination of cherry and alcohol brings back those memories. Again, it's not a bad thing and the Cherry Marnier definitely does not have any medicinal taste, just a very strong cherry flavour.

Cherry Marnier is available in Canada, but it has been reported that it is very hard to find in the United States. Each year they produce limited amount of this product and it is usually distributed in the fall months. In Canada Cherry Marnier sells out very quickly.

Where can I buy a bottle of Cherry Marnier? My ZIP code is 85650.

We found an unopened bottle of Cherry Marnier given to my wife many years ago. I believe this bottle may be vintage 1960's. Seems to be some sort of "velvet" covering on the bottle and I was wondering if this botle has any "collector" value and if so, how much.

Hello all,

I was on a cruise last month and saw Cherry Grand Marnier for this first time in St. Maarten!

I couldn't believe it.. First time ever seeing it and was completely suprised to see the discussion about it here.

It's a 700ml bottle and was only $18.00 USD. I only wish I had bought two now so I could open one and save the other!

I don't know if any of you have seen the one Velvet Bottle on E-bay. The Guy that's trying to sell it poured the cherry Marnier Down the drain and Claims it was no good after 40 years.
I Don't know what to say :(

My boyfriend has two cases of unopened cherry Marnier in red velvet bottle with Blue presentation box and white cardboard protection box.

2 cases 12 bottles per case.700ml bottles

Anyone interested in buying any. we are based in the UK

Thanks Tasha

Hello Natasha , just received an e-mail from Grand Marnier , and they are kind of interested that you have 2 cases of the Cherry , that have lasted in case form for all of this time. I could put you in touch with somone at Grand Marnier, if you would be willing to talk to them, as for the price , they suggested using e-bay for a scale of price , the regular bottles of Cherry now sell for L16 for the 70ml bottle.
Let me know please.

Has anyone heard from Natasha , i am interested in buying maybe one or two bottles from her.
My Collection would look nice with bottles of that Kind.

I have a red velvet bottle of cherry marnier. Do you know the value of the bottle? It's still in the origanal blue box.
Thanks

14 years ago I was travelling out of Acapulco and was going through the one duty free shop that they had at the airport. Low and behold they had one bottle of Cherry Marnier and I had always wanted to buy it as we had tasted it at a friends house and it was terrific. I did not have enough pesos at the time and it meant breaking Cdn money to buy the bottle and they did not take credit cards so I took a pass. Four years later I was back in Acapulco and to my amazement that same single bottle was still for sale and at that time later I bought the bottle. It has been sitting ever since in my home. My question is if I open the bottle is there a good chance that it might have gone bad in that case I may as well just leave it as an unopened collectors bottle. Any thoughts

About 2 month's ago i received a bottle of Cherry Marnier as a gift from a friend visiting from London, after i was gifted this bottle i had to wait until a somewhat special ocasion to Open and Try for the First Time,Well I was invited to a Dinner my neighbor was having for His Father and His new Wife, and We opened the Bottle and about 15 people got a Taste of The Cherry Marnier and I have to Say We all loved it.'
Now we have to come up with a way to get 15 or so bottles , so that we all may enjoy the Cherry Marnier at all of our Homes.
I must Say the wait to open my gifted bottle was well worth the wait.WE All Really Loved the Cherry and are would reccomend to anyone that has yet to Taste the Cherry ,open it and Enjoy it is every thing that i read about it and then more.

HI,

I found a bottle and opened it!

Hi Folks
Since getting my bottle as a gift , i have shared my Cherry Marnier with about 40 of my close friends and it was a hit with everyone, we're already trying to figure out how we can use this Wonderful Tasting Liquor in our cooking ,everything from Desert's to enhancing a few other cooking techniques.
I am worried now how i'm going to get more Cherry Marnier not only for myself but for my Friends.
Tim I am jealous , I would love to be privileged to be able to Taste the Cherry that has aged.
Maybe someday i will find a bottle to purchase, I would love to Enjoy the Aged as much as i do the New Product.

I have two empty red velvet bottles that I bought in the late 1970s in Washingotn, DC. I am interested in buying a bottle if anyone has one for sale. It's simply out of this world!

I found a Red Velvet Bottle of Cherry Marnier in my grandmother's basement. Its unopened, in the blue box and still has the paid tax sticker on it. I live in NYC and was wondering if anyone knew if this would be worth anything or where I could go to find out.

Hi,

We were cleaning up the house from our grandmother and found various unopend Cherry marnier bottles (among other old bottles). They all have the red ribbon and the seal. they look old, but not sure what year they are from. probably around 1960-1970. Are they still good to drink? or are they worth something and too valueable to drink?

Thanks for any advice or response!

Seem you have come across something special . I have been watching for these bottles on e-bay and one was just taken off the auction for not reaching the sellers price , the bidding stopped at $35.00 , I don't know how much they are really worth , that is actually up to the seller , but if you are a Cherry Marnier Fan they are still good to Drink if the seals are not broken, the flavor will not be as strong as a brand new bottle from what i'm told, it is said to be much smoother and very much more Enjoyable. You are in my opinion very lucky to have come across such a find , you don't know how i would love to be in your place right now , but maybe one day i will fall across the same luck.
I truly Hope you Enjoy Drinking your Cherry Marnier, If you do invite some special friends over and share it with them as in my belief it will be very memorable.
I hope this answer's your Question.

We just opened a bottle of cherry marnier from my mother. She died in 1997 and this bottle was in her liquor closet. It has the red velvet bottle, and, amazingly enough, it tasted fantastic. So much cherry!
Am sharing it with friends as I write.

Hi all,

I have a red velvet bottle with gold ribbon trim of Marnier Lapostolle. Bottle and contents are in great condition. It is in a mostly black box and the bottom says "CARILLON Importers LTD 745 FIFTH AVENUE NEW YORK, N.Y. 10022. Printed in France Produce of France. Coding on the UNBROKEN seal is 702744394 & IMPORT NO. 2-I-458. Can you help me out with some details? A date, approximate value, any other details you may be able to share? I have hear that some opened and enjoyed the contents and others have tried and it was bad. Would love to sell it to someone who appreciateds it. I can send pictures if needed.

Thank you for your time.

David in New York

Good Morning David In New York

I looked on E-bay and Could not find any Cherry Marnier in anything larger then a Small bottle ( like something you would get on an Airplane) ,I did find two bottles of Grand Marnier from the early 60's to the 1980, and they were both listed unopened and they were only asking $29.00 and I honestly can not remember if there were any bid's on either bottle.
I also checked with the liquor store in London and the current Price in American Dollars is $ 25.30 plus a few dollars for shipping .
The price to sell is really set by the seller i guess the really isn't enough of the old bottles showing up to set a standard price.
To answer your Question about the Contents going bad ,in my opinion it doesn't go bad , read a few post's listed above and you will see that several people have opened the Old Bottles and the Contents were Very Enjoyable and Worth Opening, and they are sharing with their Friends due to the Great Taste, Remember this is a Cognac and Brandy Mixture , Both of wich get better with Age.
I hope this has answered your Questions , I'm no expert but i have done a lot of research on this product... Stephen
