Birth Announcement

Darcy O'Neil :: February 13, 2007 11:40 PM

Well I just wanted to let everyone know that I am now a first time father. My wife gave birth to our first child, a boy, who was 3.85 kg (8 lbs 5 oz), 51 cm (20") long on February 13, 2007 at 11:26AM. He is perfectly healthy so far as we know. We've decided to give him a good Irish name, so he is Fionn Patrick O'Neil. The name Fionn is from the Irish folk hero Fionn mac Cumhaill (North American pronunciation is Finn McCool,) who was a great Irish leader who implemented a code of honour among the elite soldiers he commanded, the Fianna. He challenged them to become champions of the people, make themselves models of chivalry and justice that other could aspire too. It seems to be a hopeful name of the great things he may someday accomplish. So here is a cheers to being a father and this new chapter in my life! Thank you, everyone, for reading this site and I intend to keep on writing, but if some of my posts are slightly incoherent, it maybe due to lack of sleep.

Congratulations sir!

I love the name of the first child, there's so much pomp and circumstance. On the second child, you think of a name and go "Yeah, that sounds nice." :)

Have fun and my only piece of advice is this: Every day gets easier...

Congratulations!!! And cheers!!!

Darcy - wonderful news! Congratulations to you and your wife.

Hot damn! Congratulations to you and your wife, Darcy, and a hearty hello to the little guy. Try to get some sleep, and as a father of two myself, let me welcome you to the weird but wonderful world of fatherhood.

Congratulations!

Congratulations!! Boy, are you in for it now. My first (and so far only) born just turned one in November.

Here's some advice:
1. Take everyone's advice with a grain of salt and do whatever you think is reasonable.

More practically:
2. Forget sterilizing anything - that kid is going to be licking the floor. Besides, the second you touch whatever it is you sterilized it's not anymore.

3. Forget the formal "burp cloth". Get yourselves a couple of packs of genuine cloth diapers. They're more absorbent, last longer and cheaper.

4. Don't wear anything nice or that you couldn't throw away at a moments notice for about the next eight months.

5. Stock up on rechargeable batteries. They're more expensive but you'll save a fortune in the not to long run.

6. Babies cry. If he's fed, burped and clean and still crying chances are he's just burning some pent up energy. Babies tend to cry before they go to sleep for that purpose.

7. Above all, just remember that all you have to do is keep him alive and healthy. Everything else is gravy.

Again, congratulations and welcome to the club.

Congratulations, Darcy! Now someone just has to find you a baby rattle in the shape of a Boston shaker. ;)

Great name, too.

Congratulations! That's great news.

By the way, I'm also going to be a first-time dad later this year, so any tips & advice you have are definitely welcome!

Congrats Darcy!

I hope you and your wife have nothing but happiness with this new addition to your family.

Congratulations!!!

Congratulations, Darcy!

All the best to you, your wife, and your new addition!

Congratulations, his name is beautifully orginal. Best of luck.

Big Congratulations to you

Congratulations!

I'll sure miss the website. It was great while it lasted. (just kidding, you'll find time to post somehow!)

Congratulations Darcy! I'm sure you'll have plenty of fun with him. Remember too, though, that one of the legends about Fionn McCool was that he stole from the rich and gave to the poor - like an Irish Robin Hood. My advice - keep a close eye on your pockets as little Fionn gets older...

Congratulations Darcy!

Congrats!

I never knew that babies were measured for their length... or was it height?

I'm a bit late with this, but:

Congratulations!

Dear Darcy, Caroline, & Fionn,
-- Your dad O. the other night on the phone, suggested I google your name, Darcy, but I decided to google Fionn's full name!! This is more fun!
-- Again, Congratulations to the three of you. We may see pics of Fionn this Sunday.
-- Huge HUGS (((((H)))))
