Champagne Syrup

Ingredients
2 Pints Rhine Wine
3 lbs Granulated Sugar
1 oz Sherry

Instructions:
Combine ingredients and heat gently to dissolve the sugar. Bottle.
 
Notes:
Rhine wine would be a German wine, likely a dry Riesling.
 
History
This syrup seems to have been used in a number of soda type concoctions.
