Oil of Venus

Ingredients
9 Quarts Fine Brandy
3 oz Skirret Seed
3 oz Caraway Seed
4 oz Daucus Creticus Seed
4 Drams Mace
1 oz Cinnamon
Saffron
Water
8 lbs Sugar

Instructions:
Infuse in the brandy, for one month, skirret, caraway, daucus, mace and cinnamon. Distill the whole in a water bath, having drawn off 6 quarts. Return it to cohobate into the alembic. On obtaining this second distillation, about 5 quarts of spirit, remove the heat. Compose a strong syrup of saffron, water and sugar and boil until thick as oil. When it has cooled pour the spirit in the syrup. Combine thoroughly.

History
Oil of Venus has been mention in historical documents as far back as the mid 1700's, along with Spirit of Adonis and Parfait Amour. Generally regarded as a fine cordial that women enjoyed.
