| Instructions: Place the poppy petals in a vessel with the brandy and steep for 48 hours. Strain out the poppies and add the remaining ingredients to the brandy. Allow to stand for four to eight weeks, shaking daily. Filter and bottle. |

| History Poppy Water was a cordial used to aid the surfeits (over indulgence at the table). Some recipes are called Surfeit Water. Today we call these cordials "digestif bitters". |
| Comments The poppy variety used (common field or corn poppy) does not contain opiate alkaloids so there is no concern about ingesting opiates. |
