Long Island Iced Tea
Vodka
½ oz
Gin
½ oz
White Rum
½ oz
Tequila
½ oz
Triple Sec
½ oz
Lemon Juice
1 oz
Simple Syrup
½ oz
Cola
1 oz
Instructions

Fill a collins glass with ice and set aside. Combine all the indredients, except the cola, in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until well chilled. Add the cola to the collins glass and then strain the contents of the shaker into the glass. Garnish with a lemon wedge.

The Long Island Ice Tea is one of those drinks that was created to pack a punch. Oddly, the combination of ingredients, which can vary, do combine to make a flavour that vaguely tastes like iced tea, without the addition of tea.

What is in a long island ice tea?

The original recipe combined the four primary spirits (vodka, gin, rum, tequila) with the orange liqueur triple sec and then the addition of sour mix and cola. All of the ingredients are ½ ounce measures except the cola, which makes the drink memory friendly. The cola is what gives this drink its tea like colour and can be adjusted as needed.

The Long Island Iced Tea recipe can vary depending on who makes it. Often the tequila is left out or replaced with brandy. Upscale bars will replace the bar sour with fresh lemon juice and sugar. Less knowledgable bartenders may add iced tea, but that is generally considered poor form.

According to Dale Degroff the Long Island Iced Tea was created by Robert 'Rosebud' Butts as a summer party drink. Butts was a bartender at the Oak Beach Inn, in Babylon, New York.
