Product Description
This is the base premium edition of the El Dorado line of rums. This is a good rum for mixing in drinks where you want some definitive rum character to show through. It is on the darker side of amber rums.
Label Text
This fine aged demerara rum is produced by Demerara Distilleries Ltd. master distillers since 1670. Matured for at least five years in oak casks this rum is hand blended to achieve the ultimate taste of the finest aged rums. El Dorado 5 year old rum is best enjoyed straight or on the rocks.
Tasting Notes
Colour:
Deep golden brown. Borderline amber to dark rum
Aroma:
Characteristic rum aromas with lots of molasses and dry fruit aromas. After about five minutes this rum really opens up and you get more of the deep wood flavours.
Palate:
Starts slightly sweet with flavours of vanilla, molasses and toasted oak. Finishes with some heat and spice.
Notes:
This is a decent rum, not necessarily a straight sipping rum, but more of a mixing rum. It doesn't have the depth of flavours that older El Dorado rums have, like the 12 year or 15 year versions.
It was given a Silver rating at the 2007 Tales of the Cocktail Rum Tasting
Serving Suggestions :
Good in Tiki cocktails or something like a mild Dark n' Stormy or even just a plain old Rum & Coke.
