Product Description
Van Ryn's Brandy is a South African spirit made in the tradition of Cognac brandies. It is made from only Chenin Blanc and Colombar grapes, which is the same as in the Cognac region of France. The grapes are used because of their naturally high acidity.
Label Text
A 10 year old vintage brandy of singular smoothness and stature. It confirms why Van Ryn's distillery of Stellenbosch remains the undisputed seat of brandy excellence in South Africa. The brandy is double distilled and aged in French Oak barrels.
Tasting Notes
Colour:
Deep golden brown
Aroma:
A typical brandy aroma with a slightly acidic nose. Sweet with hints of oak, vanilla, chocolate and dark fruit.
Palate:
Starts very smooth with a slight sweetness and a subtle bit on enjoyable heat. Fruit and oak. The finish is slightly fruity with an astringent quality. Very, very smooth.
Notes:
I really like this brandy. For its age it reviews extremely well. You would think it is a few years older. The lower alcohol content (38%) may help with the smoothness and temper the brandy burn common in younger brandies.
Serving Suggestions :
This is a fine after dinner sipper. However, don't be afraid to make a killer Sidecar with it.
